Our History

The Quaranta family has been in the restaurant business in the Mahoning Valley for over 65 years. It all started when Joseph Quaranta opened The Hub Gardens on Hillman Street in Youngstown in 1939.

When Joseph passed away in 1956, his son Ron Quaranta, Sr. took over the business.

In 1962, Ron, along with brothers Lee and Ed, opened the Cave Lounge on Market Street in Youngstown, followed by the opening of Ronnie’s Tavern on South Avenue in Youngstown in 1968.

In 1973, Ron opened the original Isle of Capri on Youngstown-Poland Road in Struthers. The restaurant remained at that location until 1985, when it moved to Boardman on Rt. 224 near I-680 (at this point Quaranta’s son, Ron Jr., and daughter, Lynn, joined the family business). After 10 years, that location closed - a victim of the growing number of chain restaurants opening at the time.

In 1996, the Capri resurfaced at 7807 Market Street in Boardman with a slightly altered name - “Caffe Capri Italian Bar & Grille”. Ron Quaranta Jr.’s wife, Carolyn, joined the business in 2002, shortly after the passing of the family matriarch, Joanne “Mama Q” Quaranta.
In March of 2005, the Quaranta family broke ground for a new, freestanding restaurant at 8000 Market Street, less than ½ mile south of its previous location. The groundbreaking culminated over 2 years of developing concepts and plans. On November 10, 2005, a long time dream of the family came true when the all new Caffe’ Capri opened.
